Posterous acquired by Twitter

Posterous_spaces

Considering what Twitter did to Tweetdeck, I'm not hopeful for the future of Posterous as we know it. The timing sucks, too. I was considering dropping my web host completely and moving everything to Posterous. Instead, I'll be looking for different options.

It's too bad--Posterous was/is a great service. There is, of course, a slim chance that Twitter won't eff it up, but I'm not counting on it.

Damn.

Custom Domains, Dreamhost, and Posterous

I sent this to a buddy of mine so he could set up his domain to point towards his Posterous blog, and I thought maybe someone else might benefit from it as well.

If your domain is registered through Dreamhost, this is how you set an A record towards your Posterous blog.

Go to the "Manage Domains" section of http://panel.dreamhost.com
Add the A record as shown. I used a subdomain, but you could use your primary domain name, as well.

For the subdomain, I entered "blog" in the "Name" field.
"Type" dropdown list should show "A".
"Value" should be: 184.106.20.102
Click "Add Record Now!"

Once Dreamhost is setup, you can modify the settings for your Posterous blog to use that domain (or subdomain.)
Go to the settings for the blog you're setting up. With the new Posterous "Spaces" layout, you'd click on "Spaces" in the top menu, then click the gear icon next to the blog you want to change, then "Space Settings".

Click the "Edit" button.

Mine is already linked, but you'll see where to enter the domain (or subdomain.)

Once it's entered, click "Save Settings" and wait for DNS to propagate.

Posterous Spaces

I haven't had much of a chance to check it out yet, but if you're not already using Posterous, now would be a good time to start.

Whether you want to create a public blog, a private place to share family vacation photos or start a group for your classmates to stay in touch, you can create a Space for it.  Adding members to your Space is a snap, and your members can participate through your Space's eb site, their mobile device or via email.

Read more about Posterous Spaces on the official blog.

What can you do with Posterous?

The possibilities are endless.

I've been using Posterous since sometime last year, and I haven't found a better way to publish content. There's a handly little FAQ page you can peruse to see if it works for you, or you can dive right in by sending an email to post@posterous.com. They'll do the rest and send a response with information about your new Posterous blog. It doesn't get any easier than that.

How cool is Posterous?

This cool:

Posterous... Why aren't you using it yet?

Seriously. Posterous has made sharing whatever you want, wherever you want, incredibly easy. If you can send an email, you've already mastered Posterous. Check out their FAQ and this video for more info.

There's an app for that, too... If that's your thing.

And Posterous isn't just for blogs. Create groups (public or private) or events to capture posts from all your guests. The people behind Posterous are friendly and helpful, and they keep adding more cool features as time goes on.

Posterous app for iPhone

P211

As if it wasn't easy enough to post to Posterous, there's an app for that now. I think it's fairly new... I remember reading about it a while back.

Clean UI, easy tagging and media uploading. Worth looking at if you have Posterous and an iPhone. iPhone

Posterous = Options

Been doing a bit of monkeying around with Posterous tonight. It's a powerful tool for posting to multiple sites, but it takes a bit of studying to remember the different address options required to post to those sites selectively.

So if you see a few random posts tonight, it's just me, geeking out.
