Watch Out! This Trojan Pretends To Be Adobe Flash To Infect Your Mac
Published on Cult of Mac | shared via feedly mobile

There’s loads of reasons not to install Flash on your Mac, from extending your battery life to keeping your system running like greased lightning. If those reasons aren’t good enough for you, though, here’s another one: a new Trojan for Mac is going around that poses as FlashPlayer, and if you’re not careful, installing Flash on a new Mac is all that it could take to infect your system.

F-Secure calls the Trojan Bash/QHost.WB. Here’s how it works:

Once installed, the trojan adds entries to the hosts file to hijack users visiting various Google sites (e.g., Google.com.tw, Google.com.tl, et cetera) to the IP address 91.224.160.26, which is located in Netherlands.

The server at the IP address displays a fake webpage designed to appear similar to the legitimate Google site.

Here’s what it looks like in action:

Worse, the Trojan actually is programmed to serve pop-up ads, and while no ads are displaying now, the system’s in place, just waiting to go live.

Obviously, if you’re going to install Flash, the only safe way to do so is through Adobe’s official site. Why not try to live without it though? Your computer will thank you. Similar Posts:

Evernote for Mac Update

I haven't been paying attention, apparently. Evernote for Mac (and Windows) got an update yesterday and there's one important added feature: The ability to create links to individual notes. This lets you spin a perfectly intertwined web of knowledgy note-ness. Kinda like a wiki on your desktop.

From Evernote:
You can paste that link into just about anything—other notes, calendars, to-do lists, third party apps, etc. Whenever you click on the link, it’ll open the note. If you Shift+Click (Windows) or CMD+Click (Mac), it will open the linked note in its own window. We’ve already updated the Web, iOS and Android versions of Evernote to support this feature, so if you click a note link in those environments, it’ll take you to the right place.

How awesome is that?

You can now copy notes, as well. Why is this cool?
Create note templates
Note copying gives you the ability to create templates for notes. If you have a specific note layout that’s ideal for, say, gardening or accounting, then make a copy of it. We also give you the option of applying the tags and created date of the original note to the copy.

I've been wanting to create templates for projects, craigslist postings, etc. Now I can.

I also dig the "snippet view" more than the previous "mixed view".

Bento template for Craigslist sales

Don't know if this will be of use to anyone, but if you're a Bento user, and you sell stuff on Craigslist, here's a quick little template you can use with Bento to keep track of everything.

If you have the Bento app on your iPhone or iPad 2, you can easily add photos to each record to keep everything in one place.

Bento is a bit limited as far as database design and functionality, but it serves a purpose for simple data collection like this. There are three status-based collections: Pending, Listed, and Sold. There is also a simple list field to track the dates and prices if you list an item more than once.

Works with Bento 3 (and above, I imagine.)
