Google Hangouts

Google_hangouts

I keep hearing people talk about how awesome Google Hangouts are, but I've yet to have a consistent video/voice experience with Hangouts. Skype and iChat work fine, but Hangouts don't. It's too bad--they're an awesome idea.

Google+ iOS Update

I haven't had the opportunity to try it yet, but being able to join Hangouts from the mobile app is huge. Definitely beat Facebook to the punch there--which is surprising, considering Facebook's Skype integration, and the fact that Skype video chat works on the iPhone.

Obituary for Daniel Hedrick

I have a Google alert set for my name. It doesn't get hits very often--most recently when I signed up for Google+ and made my profile public.

Today, I got a hit on an obituary in the Denver Post for Daniel Hedrick. There were a couple of interesting similarities: His birthday was June 17th; mine is June 18th. His wife's name is Molly; my sister's name is Molly.

Just thought that was kind of interesting. Sad, but interesting. Rest in peace, Mr. Hedrick. You had a cool name.

Google+ and the new look of Google Calendar

So I got invited to Google+ today. Obviously, it's a little slow without a bunch of users, but from what I can see so far, there's definite potential. The "Hangout" feature is especially interesting to me, as my family has been trying to find a decent group video chat option for awhile now.

Also, Google Calendar has a new look. I read somewhere that it was rolling out to users a little bit at a time, but you can always upgrade manually with the link in the top right corner of the page. I like the look Google is going for with + and Calendar. Clean, as always, but not quite as bleak as it's been in the past.
