Transparent Camping Tent - ReflectionOf.Me
This is just awesome. Unless you're in bear country. Then it's probably as effective as a sneeze shield at a buffet.

This is pretty awesome idea. Is it odd that I like the smell of freeze dried blood worms?'Cuz I do. Can't quite describe the smell, but its yummy. And no, I don't intend to ever actually taste them. The smell is enough to keep me happy. Work Travel
My buddy runs the McNultyLive.com blog, and has a tendency to write humorous posts based on his life. I was lucky (?) enough to become the subject of one of these posts.
In addition to being a friend of mine, he's also someone I've worked with for the past nine years. He was my boss for eight of those years, but now we work together putting together corporate videos, shooting photography, and whatever else is asked of us.
I've been told that I must be so lucky to get to travel for work. I'll admit, there are parts of it that I really like: I get the air miles, I get to (occasionally) see incredible cities and stay in incredible hotels and resorts... On the flip side, I often have to get up at three in the morning to catch an early flight, and the only parts of a city in which I'm able to indulge are the airport and the hotel.
That said, when on these work trips, any entertainment is good entertainment--even if it's at my expense. Kudos to my buddy for snapping this shot, as it cracks me up every time I see it. For the record, I am not an atheist... I have considered myself an agnostic for years now. But "The Amish and the Atheist" is a far funnier title, and that's the point, in the end.

Wish
Peace, originally uploaded by pdxmac.
A buddy of mine and I were asked to shoot an event put on by Oregon's Make-a-Wish chapter.
The event was for a 16 year old guy with congenital heart disease who wanted to wear a Sgt. Pepper uniform, and have a Beatles-themed party. The Make-a-Wish people went all out. He was driven to the Hotel Monaco in a Rolls Royce, walked the red carpet into the hotel, and was surrounded by paparazzi (us, and two different local TV stations.) KGW coverage can be viewed here. (Will open in a new window.)
Inside the hotel ballroom, a Beatles cover band called Blackbird played while the news station interviewed him, people danced, hung out, and generally had a great time.
I'm hoping to work with Make-a-Wish again; it's a great charity.

Happy hour is one of the greatest things ever invented. Where else can you gather with strangers over confidence-boosting beverages at reasonable prices? People fascinate me, so watching how people interact is a favorite pastime of mine.
Recently, while indulging at an Alberta Street happy hour, I met Pete. Pete was waiting for a bus, and was initially a little hesitant to join our table. Eventually, though, he ordered himself a Hennessy and sat down. He showed us scars--one on his scalp, and one on his leg; reminders of the life he has lived. The tattoos all had stories, but he declined to delve into the specifics of the teardrops. He admitted that he'd like to work with kids someday, but that getting out of the life he was in was easier said than done. I was torn between genuine curiosity and the desire to be respectful; I didn't want to ask the wrong question, or be too inquisitive of a life I knew nothing about. Several Hennessys and a game of pool later, Pete had to leave.
Proud of his affiliations, he threw his sign, and posed for this picture.

Atlantis LoungeAtlantis Lounge Originally uploaded by pdxsurreal Technically, I'm just checking to make sure I've got Flickr set up correctly to post photos directly to the blog. But, if you've never been to Mississippi Pizza/The Atlantis Lounge, go check it out. Great pizza for lunch--by the slice... C'mon, you know you want to. All the cool kids are there.Montana TripHeaded to Montana for Thanksgiving. I was only able to make it to Great Falls this time around--it was different. Usually, I'm in Missoula, and my trip up to Great Falls is quick. It was nice to just relax and not try to cram everything into a day or two. I had been hoping for snow, but temperatures sat right around 60 degrees F for most of my visit. The day before I left, it dropped to 25F and we got a little snow. Photos... And a video... PhotowalkingGotta love wandering around with friends taking pictures. Makes for a great weekend. |
